ONE THING THAT GETS OVERLOOKED WHEN VENUE SEARCHING IS HOW THAT VENUE WILL EFFECT THE PHOTOS

So Here Are Some Things To Look For In Your Wedding Venue To Get The Most Out Of Your Photos

I have noticed so many times that couples do not take the photography side of their day in account when picking out their venue. That is totally okay, because most are not photographers and would never think about their venue affecting their photos past the obvious ways.

Bridal Suite / Bridal Getting Ready Room: Pro tip, while getting ready you’ll want a space that is not tight and cluttered, but has room to move and is well lit to get ready in (if you are wanting any getting ready photos.) Also, look for a space that is not dark, you’ll want lighter paint colors like white or grey. Please, please avoid yellow if you can! Yellow walls give off terrible light for photos. Having a nice and stress free place to get ready on-site will make the day of so much easier for you and your bridal party!

If you want the groomsmen to get ready on site or have a place to hang out before the ceremony, you’ll also want to look for a similar space for them!

Ceremony and Reception Space: For indoor ceremonies, if you are not getting married at your own church, look for a ceremony space that will be well lit! A ceremony space with lots of windows or white walls is a photographer’s dream! But that is not everyone’s style, and of course may not be easy to find within your budget. Be aware that a barn space might end up giving you orange-y photos! I know how pretty and gorgeous the wooden space can look, but it can be awful for photos if there’s not enough natural light.. Of course, a knowledgeable photographer will be able to tone down the oranges a bit in post, but sometimes there is only so much we can do! A white (not too high) ceiling can do wonders for photographers bouncing their flash.. A white surface to bounce our flash off of can help tremendously to light up the ceremony/reception photos AND combat some of that awful orange!

You normally don’t ever have to worry about not having enough light at an outdoor ceremony location! But if your ceremony is during the harsh sunlight hours, you could get some ugly harsh shadows on your faces. Some venues also have big trees to create not only a beautiful backdrop, but also to give some shade from the harsh sun.

Scenery: Another HUGE part to look for, that I don’t think anyone ever forgets, is beautiful scenery for all your wedding day portraits!

Some Final Tips: Last but not least, a few general tips to keep in mind during your venue search!

• Please oh please, avoid yellow toned or fluorescent lights when you can!

• Lots of windows or big windows are typically always a plus because they give such beautiful natural light and can make a space GLOW.

• Be sure you are IN LOVE with it!

• Before you book the venue (if you have the time to hold off just a little bit,) make sure your dream photographer is also available! Maybe ask the venue for a few dates that they have available to take to your chosen photographer, in case some of the dates don’t align, you have the option to chose one that is available for both vendors.
