This Arizona desert bridal session at South Mountain Park near Pheonix is the perfect example of an adventurous location that’s easy to access. We got a bit daring and even hiked up the side of the small mountain that was waaaaaaay steeper than it looked. Which meant the bride hiked up the mountain in her beautiful and detailed lace gown. Don’t worry, the dress is in tact, and it was sooo worth it! And we couldn’t have pulled this all off without The White Saguaro‘s expert planning and styling help.
Located in Phoenix and designated as the Phoenix point of pride, South Mountain Park has many steep and windy trails. Perfect for people to hike and eat a snack, or, of course, a photoshoot! We had so much fun finding the small mountain and climbing up the side of it we almost forgot we were there for a bridal session! Trips like this feel a little less like work and more like adventure. But beware of the all the prickly cacti on the ground!
The hike up was SO worth it (and not very strenuous.) I was able to capture the gigantic saguaro towering over her as the warm sun set in the distance. The wispy clouds held onto the pinks and oranges of the sunset as the bride walked away into the mountains. The cactuses seemed to invite her to follow the dusty trail to a dance with them!
We also stumbled upon a small adobe building which contrasted with Kirstens dress and really made it pop! Her gown had breathtaking detail work in the lace which really stood out against the flat wall and the natural tones the desert offered. The sunset was perfectly timed. You really can’t get much better golden light than this! We were once again a bit daring by darting into the road for an awesome backdrop.
There is no better way to achieve the desert hues for a shoot than venturing into the desert. The burnt orange of the dirt and soft grey-green of cactus really made these photos pop! Kristen looks like a picture right off the cover of Arizona Bride Magazine. She nailed the southwestern bohemian bride look, am I right?! Her bouquet was neutral with just the smallest bit of orange and provided just the right amount of desert chic (is that a thing? If not, it is now!)
I wouldn’t call myself a hiker but I will happily continue veering into the wilderness to capture more photos for the adventurous bride! The shoot was so fun to take a risk (literally) and visit new areas of South Mountain Park to take more stunning photos of brides and the scenery we sometimes forget we have.
