Before we talk about their Blue Ridge Parkway engagement session, I have to share the story of their relationship. It’s a forever loved story of two friends dancing the line of friendship and something more. Who doesn’t love a best friends to lovers story? ‘Cause I sure as heck do! During their long friendship period, they did everything together: hiking, going to the gym, kayaking, etc. Needless to say, they had a very adventurous relationship that bonded them for life. Chelsie said her stubbornness wanted to make sure she really liked him before progressing their relationship to something more. Five years later, they finally made things official.
On the day Chad proposed, they went to a tree farm to pick out the perfect Christmas trees for their homes. When it was their turn to get some pictures taken with the trees and mountain views in the background, Chelsie noticed Chad’s heartbeat picking up and his breathing increasing. Being a nurse she thought he was going to stroke out. (He didn’t.) Instead, when they were done with their photos he grabbed her hand and suggested they take one more… and that’s when he got down on one knee. Chad was so nervous, the ring box was upside down but Chelsie said it was the most perfect moment ever.
Chelsie and Chad could not imagine life without each other. They’ve been best friends since day one and thank God every day for each other. I asked Chad when he knew he wanted to marry Chelsie. He answered that he prayed daily for God to send him a women to spend forever with. Over the years his love for Chelsie has only grown and he could not imagine coming home to anybody else.
You’d probably never guess that this engagement session didn’t go as planned. When you’re in the mountains, clouds and fog are unpredictable. It was supposed to be a nice, mostly sunny day. But as we drove through Asheville, there was a rain storm passing through the mountains. Fortunately we did not get stuck with rain- instead we got crazy dense fog you couldn’t see past. The fog could definitely create some super moody vibes, but Chelsie and Chad had their hearts set on those mountain views. So instead of our original location, we hit the overlooks to make some magic there. The Smokey Mountains are quite a stunning place, perfect for adventure, and with it comes a bit of unpredictability. I always like to warn my couples of the possibility of fog when we arrive. No matter what, we will get amazing photos!
Since their Blue Ridge Parkway engagement session got cut in half, we added a part 2. For Part 2 of their engagement session, I found an in season sunflower field not too far away from us. I share some of these photos at the end as well!
