Boy do I have a beautiful and touching wedding to share with you today! Mikayla & Travis’s Modern Winston-Salem summer wedding was quite the dreamy day. Coming in from Wilmington, they wanted a venue closer to Mikayla’s family that had a modern rustic vibe. Having just the place in mind, I recommended Bakery 1818 to Mikayla for it’s brick walls and dreamy ceremony backdrop. Bakery 1818 is located in Madison, NC which was the perfect distance for Greensboro and Winston-Salem based family members.
Mikayla and Travis met during a fun filled weekend at the beach. Travis was working towards his nursing degree while Mikayla was working on her master’s degree. Mikayla could not deny their connection, nor their shared love for the beach. A few months after making their relationship official, Mikayla moved out to Wilmington to live with Travis. Her mother always told her the qualities she was looking for in a man were too high. One of which was they had to love her dog Ava as much as she does. Well, Travis hit all of her marks so it was no surprise when he proposed to her on the beach. Did you also know their engagement session was on the beach!? Bakery 1818’s rustic charm were the perfect touch to Mikayla and Travis’s modern pieces. Mikayla wore a gorgeous and sleek gown with the perfect amount of flow for fun photos. She also forgo wearing uncomfortable heels for a super cute pair of jeweled sandals which also matched her jewelry. Travis wore a pair of slacks and a vest over the traditional white button up. Matching the bridesmaids champagne dresses, Travis also wore a champagne colored tie. They wanted their wedding colors to reflect a beautiful neutral and modern vibe. I must say, they pulled it off wonderfully.
As Mikayla’s bridesmaids and mother helped her with her final getting ready touches, Travis’s groomsmen also helped him perfect his ensemble. The guys also followed up with relaxing their nerves by enjoying some cigars outside. Of course, this made for the perfect photo opportunity. Although the two decided to save their first look for walking down the aisle, they did choose to exchange emotional letters with each other. Neither of them had dry eyes for that.
They married in front of the gorgeous brick wall draped with sheer curtains and string lights. Above them hung a beautiful greenery chandelier and even more twinkling lights. It was the perfect romantic indoor setting to exchange their vows. Immediately after sharing their first kiss as husband and wife, the day turned into a celebration.
When it came to taking photos, the groomsmen had a BLAST going all out and letting their crazy friendship show. I always aim to give the groom and his guys room to goof off while still getting cool “GQ” vibes, and this group killed it. With Mikayla and her bridesmaids, I wanted to show a united front that gives everyone else squad goals. The bridesmaids easily rallied behind Mikayla and were full of laughter. When it came to Travis and Mikayla’s newlywed portraits, they were down for ANYTHING. (Like running into the street and giving the most dramatic dip kiss ever.) The entire time they made lovey dovey eyes and couldn’t keep their hands off each other.
When they arrived to their reception, they were welcomed with endless cheers and love. Amazing food was served, and finally it was time for the moment they had practiced for for months. Their first dance. This was a super important moment for them that had been choreographed to perfection. It was the most romantic first dance that is sure to never be forgotten. After lots of dancing, emotional toasts, and goofing off, Mikayla and Travis departed through an exciting LED balloon exit. The balloons were a super fun alternative to the normal Sparkler Exits. Don’t get me wrong, sparkler exits are full of magic but it’s fun to change it up too!
