If you didn’t know (which, you probably didn’t) I was born and somewhat raised in Kansas before moving to North Carolina! I say somewhat raised because we moved when I was 10 years old… but when we first moved I would go back and visit the rest of my family about 4 times a year. And now as an adult, I still go back about once a year. THIS time, I got to go back to Kansas on business- to photograph a wedding! I had been so PSYCHED for this day ever since Jess & Kyle booked me.
So now let me tell you about them (and stop talking about myself).. Jess is my best friend’s sister! And Kyle is a fireman. Clearly I haven’t know him as long as Jess, haha. I have known Jess and her family since we were little and getting to photograph her wedding day, all these important moments with her family, was so extremely special. It was 3 years ago when I first met Kyle, before they were engaged, and I could tell they had something special. They were SO goofy together and kept looking at each other with such loving eyes.
Fast forward to their wedding- Jess and Kyle got married at a gorgeous property called The Barn at Schwinn Produce Farm in Leavenworth, Kansas which is about an hour outside of Lawrence and Lenexa- where the skies are wide open and the soft rolling hills disappear into the horizon.
PAUSE (again)- These pearls were supposed to be rented for Jess’s wedding jewelry, but Kyle surprised her by buying them (which she learned when she read his letter.) How SWEET and romantic is that!?
You may have noticed her super cool custom chacos! Jess is a total chaco fan and even got them custom made to wear on her wedding day. Talk about comfortable and re-wearable!
After she was in her dress and ready to get married she had a first look with her dad and a first touch & letter exchange with the groom.
Which was a SUPER COOL and fun experience! Everyone got to hang out and feel the breeze while we made our way to a nearby property for wedding party photos. And did I mention, it created some awesomely unique and fun photos!?
After a fun trip away from the venue, we returned to start the party!
Kyle had yet another surprise for his bride which he had been working on since he proposed to Jess— a super sweet video and slideshow of his proposal and their childhood photos. It definitely got the crowd laughing.. and brought tears to many eyes.
Also, I cannot get over them using a fireman axe to cut their cake!
Nearing the end of their golden hour photos, a storm started rolling by in the distance and it was wicked cool. Their wedding never got touched by the storm but it sure did create an awesome show for everyone to watch.
